I painted this on Bayou St. John in New Orleans with the help of my assistant, Ellie Van Pelt. The two objects are a Trans Pride Flag and the Mississippi River, but I wanted people to be able to enjoy the piece no matter how many objects they recognized.
When I showed this photo to a trans friend from St. Louis, which is upriver from us, she immediately said "I recognize that!" before I could tell her anything. That confirmed to me that this was a succesful design :)
